Portland music fans and friends are reeling from the unexpected death Jan. 1 of rocker-restarateur Jon Steuer, 33, known to Trekland as the young actor who at age 6 first played Worf’s son Alexander Rozhenko, in TNG‘s “Reunion.”
After his appearance, TNG‘s producers wanted a slightly older actor to handle the role a year later in a more ongoing basis, and Brian Bonsall appeared as Alexander in 7 more TNG episodes. Later still, actor Marc Worden played an older-teen Alexander twice on DS9.
A cause of death has not been reported, but two crowd-funded support drives have been set up so that fans worldwide can help out.
Friends have created a YouCaring fund to help with funeral costs. Steuer had a great following in the Portland area as a DJ and a member of the punk band P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. Earlier, had formed the band Soda Pop Kids in Denver in 2003 and then relocated to Portland.
A second drive on GoFundMe has been set up to help Steuer’s retired parents recover and close down Steuer’s popular local vegan restaurant, Harvest at the Bindery, which they have managed since it opened in 2015.
Thanks to Phillip Duff locally for tipping me off about this news and the two drives overnight.
